Every planner we match you with should be independently verified by you through FINRA BrokerCheck and the SEC's IAPD database.

How do I verify a planner before meeting with them?

Check FINRA BrokerCheck at brokercheck.finra.org and the SEC's Investment Adviser Public Disclosure database at adviserinfo.sec.gov. Both are free public tools that show registration status, disciplinary history, and how the planner is compensated. We encourage this check on every match, it takes about five minutes and it is worth doing before you share any financial details.

What should I ask a financial planner before working with them?

Ask directly about their fee structure, whether they are fee-only, fee-based, or commission-based, and whether they act as a fiduciary for all the advice they give you. Ask what their typical client looks like and whether it matches your situation. Ask how often you will hear from them once the relationship starts. A planner who is comfortable answering these plainly is a good early sign.

What if the planner I am matched with is not the right fit?
